i knew she was trouble the moment she walked in the door.

all legs and fire-engine red hair, she moved through the joint like she owned the place. i stopped cleaning glasses to watch her approach and scrambled for my uniform jacket. i’d earned the seconds i stole to straighten out my cuffs as she headed towards the bar - i was the most reliable bartender on the doctor’s payroll, after all. he wouldn’t mind. much.

“hey. you. with the face. pour a girl a drink, would you?”

yes, definitely trouble.

within five minutes the place was lit up like a christmas tree with gunfire, patrons ducking and running as i hid behind the bar. she launched herself over it and landed quick, cat-like beside me.

“pond. amelia pond. pi.” she stuck out her hand, gun in the other, smiling at me while her red curls bounced about her shoulders.

i was in love.

“rory,” i choked out, flinching as another spread of bullets hit the roof. “rory williams.”

“you and me should get a drink sometime, rory williams,” she said, re-loading her revolver and springing back up. “maybe go dancing!”

she had her mark in cuffs minutes later - not a drop of blood spilled. the bar was a mess. the doctor wouldn’t be impressed (his wife, on the other hand, might just be).

no matter. the dame was a dream.

“drink?” i asked her, as the police whisked away her target. my hands were clammy, shoved hastily inside my trouser pockets; i was nervous and shaky as hell.

smiling, she snaked her arm through mine.

“lead on, rory the bartender!”
